The
Veneto: Peschiera Del Garda (Lake
Garda)

Peschiera
is one of the larger resorts on the southern shore of Lake
Garda (Lake Mincio). Peschiera is a fortified town
the walls/le mura here are magnificent! They date to
the 16th century and are worth the exploration (architecturally).
The Palazzo Storico is in Catullo Park and has historical
significance as the place where King Vittorio Emanuele III ordered
resistance on the 8th of November 1917. Today you
will find weaponry, photos, relics and other items of the Risorgimento
and WWI a monument to the Italian soldiers who fought
and were honored in WWI are also here. Stop in at one of the
older churches (11th century) the Chiesa Di San
Martino. The church has been many things and owned by a
few countries the architecture speaks volumes (Italian
and French). Il Santuario Della Madonna Del Frassino
is just outside of town on a hill. It is a 16th century
with a statue of the Madonna (huge), paintings by Farinati and
Bertanza and 17th century frescoses on the façade
and presbytery representing the life of San Fancisco.
For those of you with children
or a penchant for theme parks
.Gardaland is right
nearby
