Umbria: Todi
Todi
is a wonderful little town, it was once an Etruscan settlement.
It too sits on top of a cliff-like hill. The main square in the
center of town is the Piazza del Popolo. In this square are the
Duomo (12th century, Romanesque/Gothic) with its grand
staircase and rose window, the Palazzo dei Priori (13th
century Gothic) with a 14th century tower, the Palazzo
del Popolo (13th century Gothic) which houses the Pinocoteca
and the Museo Archeologico and the 13th century Palazzo
del Capitano. Just outside the city walls is Santa Maria della
Consolazione (Renaissance Greek Cross style perfection).
Above the town (and to the right of the church) is a path that
leads to the ruins of the 14th century castle La Rocca.
Market day in Todi is Saturday.
