Trentino Alto Adige:
Cles

Cles is a beautiful little borgo/town in the center of the Valle di Non. There are some lovely piazzas and a castle in town. The Castello di Cles sits on the Lago di San Giustina (the lake) and is an imposing and gorgeous structure (the frescoes inside are lovely). The main piazza is the Piazza Municipio. Here you’ll find the Palazzo Assessorile with a monument and copy of the Tabula Clesiana (now in the Museo Provinciale dell’Arte in Trento). The tablets relay the story of the Romans in this Alpine region. In the same square is the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, a 16th century Gothic church with a lovely façade and frescoes on the inside. There’s an ancient and lovely Romanesque church in Pez called the Chiesa di San Vigilio (10th century with renovations in the 14th and 15th centuries). Do explore the beautiful interior. In Caltron, see the Chiesetta di Santa Lucia, a small 14th century church with an interesting interior. Walk the town and absorb the ambiance of this special borgo.
