Venafro
is located in the Mainarde and Matese mountain ranges
just above the Volturno Valley. Its a pretty setting
and youll find a lot of history here (along with
a beautiful historical center). There are Roman ruins
including an amphitheatre, Roman theatre and an aqueduct.
The 10th century Conti Pandone Castle
which has several frescoes that depict the horses of Count
Enrico Pandone is a real treat. Nearby is the Annunziata
church (Romanesque-Gothic) with frescoes from the
15th century. Do try to see the Santa Maria
delle Grazie church which is in a cave near town.
