Urbania
is an absolute delight. Its a small and charming
medieval village with a Palazzo Ducale (yes, there
is also one in Urbino and this one was also built by and
for the Montefeltro Dukes). The Palazzo Ducale (13th
century) is located on the Metauro River and has
a small gallery inside with paintings, globes, maps and
pottery. Some churches to stop in as you walk the streets
are Santa Chiara, Chiesa del Crocifisso
and the Chiesetta dei Morti where youll find
the Cimitero delle Mummie
yes, these are mummified
corpses that were found during excavations in the 1800s.
Very interesting very eerie
.. Wander and
relax in this pretty arcaded town.
Cagli is a lovely town with Roman origins. Like
other Roman towns, it is laid out in the typical Roman
grid plan where you have a central square, a town hall,
a fountain and all roads leave or lead from that central
point. The setting of Cagli is particularly wonderful
as the surrounding countryside is pristine and lovely.
Youll enjoy the drive to Cagli. In the central piazza
youll find the San Domenico Church which
houses some particularly important frescoes including
the Madonna and Child with Saints (Santi). Its a
charming town
