Lombardia
is located in northwest Italy. It is surrounded by Switzerland
and the Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Piemonte
and Emilia-Romagna regions. The majority of the land
is mountainous — the Alps and the Apennines are located here.
The remaining countryside is plains. The main cities are Milano/Milan,
Brescia, Cremona and Pavia. The area has so much to offer: lakes,
mountains, villages, castles, art, churches, fine cuisine — this
is Italy at its best (and so much of Italy is just this rich and robust).
The lakes and villas in Lombardia are perfect for total relaxation.
You can enjoy the villa gardens as you admire the majesty of the Alps.
There’s a peace here…..it’s serene and dreamlike. In
the hill towns you can enjoy the rich traditions of the area and imagine
you’re in another time. In the mountain resorts you can ski,
enjoy a spa and meet new friends. Time should be spent in this region.
The food is delicious and consists of mushrooms, corn, rice, grains,
salami, bresaola and olive oil. Some terrific cheeses are Casolet
Adamello and Gorgonzola…..wines are Franciacorta, Valatellina
Superiore and Oltrepo Pavese. When dining, do try the risotto alla
Milanese and the osso buco both are specialties of Lombardia…..
