Friuli-Venezia Giulia:
Sesto al Reghena

Sesto al Reghena is a medieval 9th century village (wait until you see the drawbridge in town). The town was part of an ancient abbey (fortified). As the village grew beyond the walls, a bridge — a drawbridge (complete with a moat) became part of the landscape — as well as a moat…..right in the center of the town! The Benedictine Abbey here dates from the 8th century! The Chiesa di Santa Maria in Sylvis has wonderful frescoes by Antonio da Firenze (heaven and hell). This church is a mix of styles. The tomb of Santa Anastasia is here too. Do visit the Villa Freschi in Ramuscello — fabulous!
