Duino Aurisina

Duino
is a fishing village overlooking the Sistiana Bay
breathtaking
.There are two castles on the
cliffs, one which is in ruins and built in the 11th
century and one that was built in the 16th
century. The Castello/Rocca, its tower and arches
are the only remains of the wonderful fortress. The newer
castle (16th century) is now the home of
a prince (it is a castle whats a castle without
a prince?). Hiking is popular and those interested in
this pursuit can locate the Sentiero Rilke (path)
which takes a grand tour/trek along cliffs (through forests
and over the bay from Duino to Sistiana). The path
is named after the German poet (Rilke) who loved this
area and town and was inspired to write because of the
beauty found here.
