Metaponto
is an archaeologists dream town! It’s also a beach resort
(the Ionian Sea)! This is one of the most important towns in
the Magna Graecia. It was founded in the 7th century
B.C. The ruins lie in fields of flowers where you’ll see
the Tempio di Hera, the Tempio di ApolloLicius,
the remains of a Greek theater, a market and more. The
Museo Nazionale di Metaponto has artifacts from these
ruins and is especially worth the trip. The lido is right nearby
so you can enjoy the sun, sand and history (all at the same
time). Market day in Metaponto is the first Sunday of the
Month.
